    What is Mentoring?

    A Mentor is a friend who is usually unrelated to the child or teen and work as a volunteer through a community, school, and church-based or social service program. A good mentor relationship can help a child or teen to become more successful and productive adult.

     

    What is Building Blocks Mentoring Program?

    Building Blocks Mentoring Program is a community based program that matches youth with caring adults to serve as role models.

     

    What will Building Blocks Mentoring Program mentors do?

    Each mentor will work one-on-one to form a relationship with a student and become a trusted friend and guide. Building Blocks Mentoring Program attempts to link students to mentors who share a common or similar interest in music, sports, reading, computers, or a hobby. Mentors may help with school work or attend school events.

     

    How much time will it take?

    Building Blocks mentors will meet at least 3 times a month for at least an hour with their mentee. In addition group activities will be schedule throughout the year as well.

     

    How are students selected to participate?

    Students are all accepted upon their willingness to participate.

     

    Why are volunteers required to attend training?

    The training is designing to help and have a positive outlook on building positive relationships with the youth. Our caring adults will learn the role of a Building Blocks mentor, as well as the parameters of the relationship. The training also provides perspectives on today's youth well-being and activities that may cause these types of behaviors. With training our volunteers will be able to understand our youth and become positive mentors.

      

    What about safety considerations?

    The safety of the volunteer and mentee is very important. It is crucial that we ensure that each mentor who spends time with a young person go through a national background check sex offender screening and finger printing.  Each mentor will have a sex offender screening as. 

     

    How is Building Blocks Mentoring Program different from other mentoring programs?

    Building Blocks is a program designed to help create, and mold the future of youth. This means all activities are agreed upon the mentor and mentee. Building Blocks mentors works directly with the Program Director and the parent and/or legal guardian of the youth. Our mentors will also be giving a gas stipend for every visit monthly.

     

    Can I transport my mentee?

    The only way you can transport your mentee is if your have a sign form from the parent or legal guardian and proof of valid car insurance. We know at times that you and your mentee will take outings and we want the youth to experience positive and different cultures. Safety is a must that Building Blocks Mentoring Program takes this very seriously. Every outing must be approved by the program director and parent or legal guardian.
